The Alberta Freestyle Kayak
Association was formed in 2008 to:
- deliver programming to develop
kayak/closed canoe skills in rodeo, river running, leadership and
safety
- provide competitive, recreational
and social opportunities to encourage the growth of a vital and
sustainable Association
- collaborate with AWA Clubs and
Associations to raise awareness of whitewater freestyle kayaking in
Alberta
Team Alberta Kayak (TAK)
Objectives for 2009
- Develop broad based paddling skills
for youth participating in freestyle kayaking
- Develop a base for competitions,
river running, training, and leadership
- Programs based on Long Term Athlete
Development stages of Training to Train (T2T) and Training to
Compete (T2C); thus enabling a comfortable transition for the club
paddler
- Competitions: World Kayak Throwdowns
for the T2T level; Aquabatics Cups for the T2C level
- TAK Weekend Training; centralized
training at the Kananaskis for event preparation of T2T and T2C
levels
- Alberta Youth Camps for T2T
- TAK Trips; Develop river running
skills for both T2T and T2C levels
- Youth Leadership Diploma; optional
and available during Alberta Youth Camps to T2C
