The Alberta Freestyle Kayak Association was formed in 2008 to:
  • deliver programming to develop kayak/closed canoe skills in rodeo, river running, leadership and safety
  • provide competitive, recreational and social opportunities to encourage the growth of a vital and sustainable Association
  • collaborate with AWA Clubs and Associations to raise awareness of whitewater freestyle kayaking in Alberta

Team Alberta Kayak (TAK) Objectives for 2009

  • Develop broad based paddling skills for youth participating in freestyle kayaking
  • Develop a base for competitions, river running, training, and leadership
  • Programs based on Long Term Athlete Development stages of Training to Train (T2T) and Training to Compete (T2C); thus enabling a comfortable transition for the club paddler
  • Competitions: World Kayak Throwdowns for the T2T level; Aquabatics Cups for the T2C level
  • TAK Weekend Training; centralized training at the Kananaskis for event preparation of T2T and T2C levels
  • Alberta Youth Camps for T2T
  • TAK Trips; Develop river running skills for both T2T and T2C levels
  • Youth Leadership Diploma; optional and available during Alberta Youth Camps to T2C

We are thrilled to have once again the experience and knowledge of AWA technical director Saskia Van Mourik act as the head coach and mentor for TAK paddlers.
