Mike came back to Alberta to begin
coaching full time, in his home province, in May
2007, after
retiring from 15 years of racing. From 1997 to 2006 Mike raced World
Cups and the World Championships in K1. With over 40 World Cups and
4 World Championships under his belt, he knows his way around a
slalom course.
Career Highlights:
- Junior National Champion 1995
- Senior Champion in 2002
- 2003 World Cup Final, 9th place
- 2004 World Cup Final, 7th place
In 2006 Mike switched to C2 for a
year and gained valuable C boat experience racing. What made Mike
come home was the prospect of bringing more youth into the community
that got him started and developing Alberta into a powerhouse Slalom
province.
ASCK Assistant Coach
Toby Roessingh has been hired to
coach for the 2009 summer season.
Toby has been pursuing interests in
whitewater slalom, in one way or another, for about 15 years. He was
a carded athlete on the National Development Team, then retired to
start a club program in Chilliwack, BC. In his coaching career, he
has led a number of training and racing tours all over the world,
worked for the Canadian National Team, and with many of the sport's
top athletes. He still competes regularly in slalom, but now also
likes to play squash, run, ride bikes, and ski. He is attending the
University of Calgary to complete a degree in actuarial science. |
