Brierlies Whitewater Classic

The Rocky Canoe Club is bringing back our local paddle festival, the Brierley’s Whitewater Classic at Rocky Mountain House. The RCC will have a sound system on the island for music and for announcing the categories, freestyle moves and such from the island beside the waves. RCC volunteers will have intermediate and beginner runs on the North Saskatchewan, run shuttles, cook a supper and a breakfast as well as organize the prizes and draws.

We have some very nice new front surf waves below the old ‘Rogers Hole’ or ‘Trash Can Rapid’ (since the last big flood) for the rodeo.
There are plans to do a down river race (Bluebridge to Brierley’s) for double and single bladers including SUPs and a category for non-paddle crafts.
Surf offs, wave boogie boarding and pool toy surf competitions are just some of the events we intend to have running for participants.
And an event called The ThrowBack ThrowDown will be a freestyle competition using old equipment from the era before ’short boats’.

A local catering business called Creative Catering specializes in unique and healthy meals and has agreed to help us out in the food department. We’ve been working to build our volunteer base as of late and have more bodies to assist in the weekend festivities. Members are getting involved and helping with our equipment maintenance, our web site and Facebook page as well as our various events throughout the season.

I truly hope that you guys are interested and available that weekend. We’d certainly love to have you and your paddlers involved in our event. As I mentioned above, we cannot have a freestyle competition at our Brierley’s Classic without you coming out.

More information to come.
