Calgary Flood Mitigation Plans

The City of Calgary wants to share with you and your groups their current opportunities to engage on flood mitigation concepts for Calgary. You may have heard in the news that an inaugural workshop was held in Hillhurst-Sunnyside. We had a packed house, media attended, and there was an energetic vibe in the room.

The City is gathering perspectives, over 7 more sessions, from river users, residents, and citizens at large in Calgary. Flood mitigation measures will affect all citizens – those who use the rivers (regardless of where they live), everyone who lives or works in an area near the river (including downtown), anyone who uses the pathways or parks for recreation or commuting, who use government services in flood-affected areas, and who use City treated water or sewer systems.  Some of the measures would visibly/physically impact the river banks, aesthetics and access.

Please share this information with your networks, and I’d encourage everyone to participate in a session and have a voice. They are listening and want to hear everyone’s perspective.

I have attached the link to the Participant Package that is being provided to citizens. It is a great reference document on flooding and the proposed mitigation concepts.
