Ranking in Provincial Races
Novice races are on flatwater or
class 1 or easy 2 rivers. Advanced racers are invited to
help coach and compete in an advanced class. Novice races
help develop paddlers for whitewater races and the Alberta
Summer Games. There are no boat restrictions. Ranking is
done on best run.
Whitewater races are usually on class II or III rapids.
Ranking is done on total time of both runs first then on
fastest run. Provincial Team Trials and Provincial
Championships require (for official ranking but not
participation) regulation slalom boats (or plastic slalom
boats) except for Cadets and Midgets.
Age Classes are:
| Midgets |
Cadets |
Junior |
Open |
Masters |
| 12 and under |
14 and under |
18 and under |
|
35 and over |
Note:
An athlete’s class of competition is assessed based on his age on
December 31st of the year of competition. For example, athlete who
turns 15 on December 31st of a given year is considered a Junior
throughout that calendar year.
