Whitewater Canada
Whitewater Canada (WWC) is a
national sport organization, which is part of
Canoe Kayak Canada. WWC governs national and international competitions
in freestyle, slalom, wild water (downriver), canoe polo, recreational
instructor training, coach development, and provides river
safety & rescue training.
WWC represents paddler's interests in
government and commercial organizations when activities may affect the
paddling environment. They also represent Canadian's interests at the International Canoe
Federation that meets 2x/year around the world. WWC is comprised of a
large base of volunteers across the country and a staffed office with
Canoe Kayak Canada.
Provincial member associations include
Whitewater Kayaking Association
of BC, the Alberta Whitewater Association, the
Whitewater Ontario, and the
Fédération québecoise de canoë-kayak
d'eau vive.
The organization continues to grow as does the support of whitewater.
There is always some new design, new event, or new people on the block
to keep us paddling.
Instruction and Safety
Certifies Kayak Instructors and Coaches nationally through White Water
Canada's certification program. Runs national program of River Safety
and Rescue courses.
Slalom
WWC selects and funds the Canadian Team that competes at Slalom World
Championships, World Cup, and Olympic competitions. It also oversees
coaching program, hires coaches for national senior and junior slalom
teams.
Rodeo/Freestyle
Selects the Canadian Team that
competes at World Freestyle Championships held every second year.
Wildwater/Downriver
Selects and partially finds Canadian Team that competes at Wildwater
World Championships. Official host of the Canadian Wildwater/Downriver
Championships each year.
WWC is the official Co-Host of the Canadian Slalom Championships each
