Wave modelling is underway to design the perfect playboating wave at the Kananaskis. This is being done at the University of Ottawa, including real-time communications with our design committee in Alberta. We've seen some amazing wave shapes coming out of early physical testing. The Kananaskis Whitewater Park was first created in 1984 by Bob Smith and the AWA. Since then the AWA has improved and rebuilt the park a half-dozen times and has put in over $2 million of work. Alberta River Surfing Association (ARSA) have also done amazing work at Mountain Wave in recent years. The Kananaskis is a gem of a resource for Alberta. The next round of maintenace is slated for 2022/23 at which time AWA & ARSA are looking to repair six years worth of degradation and significantly improve at least one feature based on the modelling information. We expect the combined project to be around $500,000 which will be funded with a combination of grants, rock donation, and community funding. If you'd like to help AWA rebuild the park, you can Donate Here. Canoe MeadowsIndividual sites are open, and the Group Site opens June 18th! There is now a Cell Phone Booster at the Canoe Meadows cookshelter. It bounces off the mountain behind and gives a few bars of reception for emergency calls and other needs. It runs off the solar system so we can't guarantee that it is always on, but you can test it out the next time you need to post to Instagram real-time ;) Cochrane Whitewater ParkCochrane Tourism, Chamber of Commerce, Business Development, Cochrane Environmental Action Committee, AWA & ARSA are starting a public engagement process for the park.
