Kananaskis Surf Wave Construction

Date
Event Item

The Alberta River Surfers Association will be upgrading the Mountain Wave, the wave below it and the Wall Wave this spring on the Kananaskis River. Construction will begin May 1 and wrap up May 10th. All three features are between Santa's Little Helper and the top of the Race Course. Heavy equipment will be transporting rock from the Canoe Meadows parking lot to these sites and then placing the rock into the river channel to form these waves. During construction the Canoe Meadows Campground will be closed.

TransAlta will be turning off the Kananasis River flow from Barrier Dam each day from 8 am to 4 pm to allow ARSA to construct 3 surfing features above the race course. The river will turn back on each day sometime after 4:00 pm to allow surfers to test the features. Anyone else is welcome to paddle the river as well.

Construction may finish up before May 10 and the river would likely be flowing full hours if that happens.

River users are advised to use caution around the new features as the work in progress may contain new and unknown hazards which will need to be adjusted as the construction proceeds.
