You are invited to AWA's Annual General Meeting! 

 

We will highlight AWA and Clubs' 2025 accomplishments and look ahead to 2026, which is shaping up to be a big year for events! This year also sees the last of the 2021-2026 AWA Strategic Plan, so the new board will help direct the 2027-2031 planning this fall. 

 

The strategic planning work has the potential to tie in nicely to the newly released Crown Land Recreation and Conservation Strategy & Plan for Parks, which bring exciting new possibilities for river recreation in Alberta, with statements like: 

• “Explore opportunities for developing water-based recreational strategies for high-priority areas within Alberta, such as the Bow River, Milk River, Red Deer River, Athabasca River, Peace River, Kananaskis River, and the North Saskatchewan River.” 
• “Explore opportunities to develop world-class signature routes with enhanced amenities and itineraries (e.g., river paddling routes…)”
• "Expand access to water and water-based recreation opportunities on resilient waterbodies, including paddling put-ins and rustic camping along popular paddling routes."
• "Explore models for shared services and co-investment by actively creating opportunities for private sector and not-for-profit partners to launch ready-for-market outdoor recreation-based activities."

All in all we look forward to seeing what our members, clubs and other partners have in store for 2026!
