Who Can Come?

Anyone can come. The idea behind this weekend is to attract as many kayakers as possible from novice to advanced. Even if you're brand new to kayaking, you can come out and participate in a beginning course. The weekend is structured such that you get a chance to paddle with your "heroes", "friends", "better halves" and meet many new paddlers.  Even if you are not paddling there's lots to do and see.

Directions

The event is held on the Kananaskis River at Canoe Meadows, just 40 minutes west of Calgary. Head south on the Kananaskis HWY 40 exit for 5 minutes to Canoe Meadows. You will see the carpark on your right hand side; if you reach the Barrier Lake info center you have gone 300 m too far. There will most likely be lots of kayakers about...(MAP)

Camping
Canoe Meadows opens for camping at 3:00pm on Friday. Please pitch your tents within the grassy field (in the marked areas) and not in the trees. Conservation Officers will make you relocate if your tent is in the trees.

There is a well in the group campground. The official advisory is that well water should be boiled before drinking, so bring your own water if you prefer.

Security
Calgary Kayak Club cannot be held responsible for your personal belongings. Please keep your valuables secured, including your boats when not in use. The Canoe Meadows parking lot is a public space and not all people in the area will be a part of the festival.  Even the campground is open to people walking through to access the riverside trails.

Food
Your registration includes Saturday breakfast, Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast. In an effort to cut down on garbage we will not be providing dishes or cutlery - please bring your own. We will have a small number of paper plates that can purchased for $2 each. Also bring your own lunch and other snacks for the weekend.

Dogs
Well behaved dogs are welcome but the same rules apply to the festival as any other weekend, dogs must be on leash at all times.

Registration
Runs 5-7pm on Friday and again from 8-9 Saturday morning. Even if you registered on line you will need to go through registration to sign a waiver and collect your swag bag.

Demos
There will be a variety of boats available to demo. If you require any other gear (drytop, deck, paddle, PFD, helmet) these can be rented in Calgary ahead of time. Contact MEC, Aquabatics, Undercurrents, or the UofC Outdoor Centre.

Auction
This year we have a lot of great prizes, thanks to all our wonderful sponsors. Come out and pick up the latest boat, paddles, helmets and lots of great gear. Bring your cash, cheques and credit cards and prepare to do some bidding.

Clinics
In addition to the competition events, we will be hosting a number of clinics and river runs. You can register and pay online with your festival registration.

Friday clinics begin at 6 pm. Participants must sign in first (and sign waivers). Please be there at 5:30 to meet your instructor and arrange shuttle. We want to make the most of your time and get you on the water by 6.

Saturday clinics start at 9:00 for full-day/morning courses and 1pm for afternoon half-day courses.  Please arrive early to sign more waivers and get prepped to maximize time on the water.
