Kicking Horse Kayak Festival

Its been a long time coming since we have a had a whitewater festival in Golden. And with a great river like the Kicking Horse flowing right into town and other great rivers around it is time to get the ball rolling with what will hopefully be an on going tradition.

The Kicking Horse is a fun Glacier fed river with 4 sections ranging from class III - V.

Depending on flows and timing we are hoping to do a Boater Cross down the class Lower section. To compete in the race you will need to do a Mandatory inspection lap of the lower either on the Friday or the Saturday morning.

For those not able to or wanting compete in the lower race there will most likely be a Lower Lower fun race shortly after.

The Upper is class III the and is main rafting and high water run it has two class IV's that can be portaged.

The Middle is the class IV-V section and is usually run at lower flows.

The Lower is a fast moving class IV section canyon that is fairly committing. It is rafted at low flows and great to kayak at higher flows but if Class IV is slightly over your head and you want to meet up people paddling down the Lower the fourth and final section is for you.

The Lower Lower is a great class II-III float into the town of Golden after the committing section of the Lower. It is fast moving with no real pools but is a great option for those people who want to paddle into town, or go to the play wave with out having to paddle the Lower.
