Whitewater Facility Development
Kananaskis Whitewater - River Improvements
The engineering drawings for the 2024 river improvements are nearing completion. They will be shared with the community on our webpage and socials when ready. Eddy improvements to access at the raft put-in and rock stairs at the Canoe Meadows take-out are key components, and of course touching up features through the river are included.
The adjustable wave has received a donation of structural steel and engineering support from Ed Meyer of Able Demolition. This generous donation will reduce costs by more than $100,000. Final design, cost and timing are still being determined.
10th Street Gravel Bar & Wave Project
The City of Calgary has commenced a feasibility study for a surf wave around the removal of the 10th Street gravel bar (which is a flood hazard). AWA and the Alberta River Surfing Association are supporting the project. The current phase is creating a physical model with the National Research Council in Ottawa.

Harvie Passage Facility Enhancement Plan
The City of Calgary earmarked $900,000 towards improvements in parking, pathways, signage, safety and usability this year. AWA will provide updates on their progress when available.
Boulder Run Whitewater Park development
Pinch o' Crow Creekers is leading the development of a paddling centre near Pincher Creek to activate the excellent, but lesser known Boulder Run Whitewater Park. Improvements will include slalom gates, polo nets, and a club storage building.
