Non-camping Options at Red Deer River Guest Ranch

The ranchhouse has 4 bedrooms and 2 shared baths, kitchen, hot tub on the deck and stone fireplace on a semi-private site about 1 km from the main site. Each room has a queen sized bed. Booking is for 1 room in the ranchhouse for the weekend. or book the whole ranchhouse for a large family or group.

There are two bunkhouses #1 and #2 in the mainyard next to the camping area. There is a kitchen, sitting area, separate bedroom with a double bed but no bathroom. 

Hunting Cabin #5 is in the main yard next to the campsite area. Showers, kitchen, sitting area and porch make this a nice option for those that want a little comfort with their weekend.  Cabin has a Queen and bunkbeds in the loft There is only one of these cabins on site. Booking is for the full cabin for you and your family or friends for the weekend.

Brown Creek Cabin #3 & Juno Creek Cabin #4 are in the main ranchyard and adjacent to campsite area. Each cabin has private baths and kitchens.  The cabins each have 1 Queen and 2 double beds with kitchen and full bath. Booking is for the full cabin for you and your family or friends for the weekend.

Complete Kayak Novice -
Introduction to Kayaking for the Non-paddler / 2 days

For those wanting to try paddling for the first time. Kayaks, paddles, skirts, helmets & PFD's are provided.
Saturday: Fundamentals 1-2-3, a full day canoe clinic on flatwater to learn basic strokes and skills.
Sunday: Developmentals 1 progress to the river and learn basic river running skills
Complete Canoe Novice -
Introduction to Canoeing for the Non-paddler / 2 days
For those wanting to try paddling for the first time. Canoes, paddles & PFD's are provided.
Saturday: Flatwater tandem canoeing skills
Sunday: Basic river canoeing skills
Stroke Improvement for Kayaking
Intermediate / Saturday
Do you wobble down the river, are your edges always catching on eddylines, do you tire out easy?  Learn to paddle smart and make paddling easier by taking this clinic.  Using the body, blade and boat effectively creates overall physical efficiency through technical ability.  After some time spent at improving the basic strokes the next stages of this clinic will show participants the tricks for multiple paddle stroke integration.
Kayak Surfing 101
Intermediate / Saturday
If you can safely run a river it's now time to learn how to play on it. Learn the essential skills need to surf the small stuff on a river.
Prerequisite: Knowledge, skill, and comfort in paddling grade II whitewater. A river roll will be helpful, but not required.
Solo Canoeing Skills
Intermediate / Saturday
Learn how to go it alone in a canoe. Everything you need to PIY- Paddle It Yourself.
Prerequisite: Knowledge, skill, and comfort in paddling tandem from the bow and stern in grade I whitewater
Tandem Canoeing Skills with your partner, Intermediate / Saturday While you can paddle alone, it's more fun to do it with a partner. Improve your tandem teamwork in a canoe.
Prerequisite: Knowledge, skill, and comfort in paddling canoes grade I whitewater
Running Drops & Ledges
Advanced / Saturday
If you are a river runner, this clinic will help you on your path to creeking. Understand how and when you want to pencil or boof a drop.
Prerequisite: Knowledge, skill and comfort in paddling grade II whitewater. Participants need to have a river roll.
Slalom Training
Saturday
Have you ever watched a slalom paddler on the river away from the race course ?  Did you see how smooth they are and how they precisely position their boats ?  Their secret is using slalom gates as targets to measure their performance. Learn how to precisely maneuver and control your canoe or kayak using slalom gates to mark your progress. Amazingly it can be fun too!
Prerequisite: Knowledge, skill, and comfort in paddling grade I whitewater
Whitewater Literacy 101 for Canoes and Kayaks
Intermediate / Sunday
This clinic will focus on reading whitewater, choosing lines through rapids, planning ahead, adapting to your plan B and most importantly, how to use river feature to paddle efficiently and effectively.
Prerequisite: Knowledge, skill, and comfort in paddling canoes or kayaks  in grade II whitewater
Kayak Surfing 202
Intermediate / Sunday
Take your surfing to the next level. If you can surf the small stuff paddling bigger waves and stronger holes is the next step.
Prerequisite: Knowledge, skill, and comfort in paddling grade II whitewater. River roll recommended
Canoe Surfing 101
Intermediate / Sunday
If you're comfortable going down class II rivers, now's the perfect time to learn how to surf to impress your friends, neighbours and kayakers with surfing a canoe.
Prerequisite: Knowledge, skill, and comfort in paddling grade II whitewater
Beyond Surfing - freestyle skills for Kayak
Advanced / Sunday
Learn the essential skills for boat and body awareness that allows for consistent play boating moves. The clinic emphasis is on boat control, timing, rhythm, and full use of the feature.
Prerequisite: Knowledge, skill, and comfort in paddling grade II whitewater. Participants need to have a river roll.

Courses

CKC Swiftwater Rescue 2 day CanoeKayak Canada swiftwater rescue course for all river users.
Learn simple & effective safety and rescue procedures that are applicable by the average paddler. The focus of the course is on personal/group safety skills that are effective in contributing to safe and enjoyable river travel. The course material covers the basic safety and rescue theories, procedures, and techniques. The course focuses on base-level safety awareness and is generic enough to be useful for a wide variety of participants in terms of backgrounds, skills, and motivations. This course is CanoeKayak Canada certified and is non-threatening to entry level participants.
Prerequisite: The ability to paddle and swim in class II whitewater.
CKC River Leader 2 A kayaking leader is a highly trained individual with a vast wealth of knowledge and experience in the sport of whitewater kayaking. They are able to effectively communicate and make paddling whitewater fun while at the same time minimizing the risk to the group.
Develop your skills in leadership, group management, logistics, rescue plans, and reach reasearch to become certified as a CKC/NCCP River Leader 2.
Prerequisite: Knowledge, skill, and comfort in paddling grade III whitewater
