Flooding on Kananaskis River

Hi Everyone,

I understand that the lower Kananaskis River is flowing at 250 cms right now. Normal flow is 30 cms. Last year at 50 cms most of our Canoe Meadows Riverwalk trails were underwater. So you can imagine what it looks like right now. If you have any pics today it would be interesting to see.

Highway 40 is closed to traffic but when it opens I am sure that there will be people wanting to get out and paddle on the Kan. And of course the rafting companies will be back on the water as soon as possible as well.

The AWA anticipates that there will be substantial damage to many of the river features, trails and the slalom gate system. The wires and strings on the race course may have been cut loose and hanging in the river and will pose a real hazard to anyone on the river.

We are going to marshall our staff and volunteers to get out to the river as soon as possible to rectify any safety hazards and to make sure the river is as clean of hazards as we can make it.

Thank you everyone for taking the precautions necessary to keep safe and please take any actions that you deem appropriate in this regard.
