River Safety Project

The Alberta Whitewater Association has received a Transport Canada Grant for several river safety initiatives from 2023-2025. The River Watercraft Safety Program has three parts:

1. SUP awareness campaign about the dangers of ankle leashes in moving water. #SUPUnleashed

2. PFD Lending Station at Harvie Passage in Calgary.

The Free PFD Lending Station is now operational at Harvie Passage. It will be open intermittently based on availability of staff and volunteers during daylight hours. We are aiming to have the station open daily 1-8pm, but may reduce hours when demand is low or staff is unavailable. If you have questions about the lending station, email safety@albertawhitewater.ca

3. An Online River Safety course for the general recreational paddler on the basics of river safety.

We are currently working on developing this free online safety course.
