Ghost Dam access on Bow River

TransAlta (TAU) is doing some flood repairs in the plunge pool below the Ghost Dam.  The road down to the boulder field has been repaired.  It will remain permanently closed and is only being accessed for the flood repair work. It should be great for getting canoe carts down in the future.

At the bottom of the road a ramp has been built to get down the vertical face that the 2013 flood left behind.  At this point two routes will be cleared through the boulder field to the river for access.  An eastern route following the toe of the slope to the end of the gravel bar opposite the gauging station; and a southern route directly opposite the ramp to the river’s edge.  There is no eddy along river left until the very eastern end of the gravel bar, so the eastern access will provide a good novice entry into the river.

Work will ramp up August 11th and be completed by August 31.  There are three planned low flow days (dates TBD) for which the in-stream work will occur in the plunge pool area.  Once we get confirmation of the dates, we can pass them on.
