2025/26 Pool Sessions, Programs & Courses

Pool Session - WPC Group Photo

Paddle in the Pool this Winter

Stay active. Learn new skills or build on old ones. Connect with your paddling community.

When the waters freeze, Alberta’s paddlers move indoors! Pool sessions offer a warm, safe, and social space to keep your skills sharp (or to learn something NEW!) during the winter months.

  • New to paddling? Pool sessions are the perfect place to get comfortable in a kayak or canoe, practice your wet exit, and build confidence before heading outdoors.

  • Improving your skills? Work on rolls, edging, and rescues in a controlled environment with experienced leaders nearby.

  • Experienced paddler? Keep progressing in slalom, freestyle, or canoe polo. Or simply enjoy staying active and connected through winter.

Want to Start a Pool Kayaking Program?

The Alberta Whitewater Association (AWA) can help bring paddlesport activities to your local pool!
If you’d like to start a winter kayaking program for your club, youth group, or community, we can:

  • Help you connect with pool management

  • Share resources and safety guidelines

  • Provide templates and examples from existing programs

Let’s make paddling accessible all year round.

Contact AWA to learn how to get started.

Before You Dive In

Joining a paddling club is easy and super affordable. It really is one of the best way to get started! Your club membership includes your AWA membership and waiver, and you only pay the AWA fee once per year, even if you join multiple clubs!

Fees vary by club and program, but paddling with a local club is one of the most cost-friendly ways to learn new skills and stay actively paddling all year round! Many clubs also have equipment you can borrow, so it’s easy to give it a try.

Use the links below to connect with clubs or programs and for details on fees, how to registration, and gear. DO check back here for new or upcoming sessions like Learn to Kayak, Learn to Roll, or Intro to Freestyle (especially as we get closer to spring!).

(We’ll keep adding links as more schedules come in.)
