Hello All!
As an alternative to the Harvie Passage Throwdown that we couldn't hold earlier this summer, we would like you to join us on a float down the Bow. We are using this trip as an opportunity to pick up some debris as we go (we have a raft for this) and come together as a boating community and give back a little to the river that has been such an integral part of being a kayaker in Calgary. We are just sorting out a few things for the Bow River Clean up, and are hoping that you all can join us in helping out.
There is no paid registration for the event, however we will still need you to fill out waivers when you get to the river. We are looking at starting from Baker Park (opposite side of Bowness park) at the boat launch beside the Bearspaw Water Treatment Intake (just downstream of Stoney Bridge), and ending at a take-out to be determined, but likely Deerfoot Meadows.
We are looking at getting folks here for around 9:00 AM, as we will be organizing shuttles at this point and getting folks registered. Please car pool if you can. We are looking to get on the water by 10:30 AM
There is no lunch, so bring some food.
We will also be stopping off upstream of Harvie's for folks to scout the new changes since the flood, and allow for folks to portage if they choose to do so. We'll stay here for about an hour.
At the take out, we'll have the main prize draws, and T-shirts for purchase. Every person who participates in the clean up will receive one prize draw ticket, however others are available for purchase at $5 for one ticket, or $20 for 5. Proceeds go to AFKA in helping to develop our freestyle program.
